If you've been searching for a new foundation, then you've come to the right place. Keep on reading to find out why I love these foundations and see how I rank them.
These foundations were tested on my skin type ( normal - combination depending on the season ) so please keep that in mind when searching for your perfect fit.
1. Too Faced Born This Way Foundation
Coverage : This foundation doesn't play around, it's full coverage! If applied properly it doesn't require the use of concealer for blemishes, redness etc. It does not feel heavy on the skin and has the most beautiful airbrushed finish.
I use about 1+half pumps to 2 pumps for my entire face and neck area, preferably with a beauty blender for a smoother flawless looking finish. Dries to a matte finish.
Wear time : Lasts all day long. No flakiness, no shifting/melting.
I did set my T-zone with powder, as these areas tend to get shiny naturally. I must say a little goes a long way so be careful with applying too much.
Ingredients + Packaging : The #TooFaced #BornThisWay foundation is oil-free and paraben free containing : Coconut water which helps replenish skin's moisture levels. Alpine Rose to brighten the skin's appearance and promote elasticity. Hyaluronic Acid provides long-lasting hydration for a smoother, more youthful appearance
Love the black and gold combo of the packaging. The frosted glass bottle feels good and solid, plus point it comes with a pump (honestly don't understand brands that don't include this, its a no-brainer to me.) which makes for easy no-mess application.
Size : 30ml
Shade range : 35 shades, I'm the shade Golden Beige however I could also match to Sand in summer.
Price : #39.00 | +/- R540.00
Worth it? : So did the Too Faced Born This Way live up to the hype? YES! Worth every penny! Climbed up to my top 3 foundations after 1 use. When I first walked into Sephora this foundation wasn't even on my list but after swatching it, I honestly was blown away with the coverage and creamy consistency. I'm a high coverage gal so I really appreciate the way this formula dries and looks, plus the fact that its scent free.
2. Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r - Soft Matte Longwear Foundation
Coverage : Full coverage definitely! I use about 2 pumps for my entire face. In comparison to the Too Faced, it's much more of lighter consistency. Dries matte but not too matte, almost dewy but not a shiny dewy, if you know what I mean. In other words, it gives you a beautiful soft filtered finish - thus the name lol. There’s plenty of time to blend as it has a lot of slip and you definitely don’t need loads of product to get a great coverage. I like to use this with a #BeautyBlender.
Wear time : 9+ Hours - doesn't move or flake on dry areas. I did set my T-zone with powder, as these areas tend to get shiny naturally.
Ingredients + Packaging : The #FentyBeauty #ProFiltr foundation is a oil-free matte foundation made with climate-adaptive technology that's resistant to sweat and humidity and won't clog pores.
Let’s take a minute to appreciate the original, clean-cut, hexagonal packaging of Fenty Beauty with it's white lid and uniquely shaped frosted bottle.
Size : 32ml
Shades Range : 40 shades. I am the shade 240.
Price : $34.00 | +/-R.00
Worth it : It was between this and the Huda Beauty. For me Fenty hit it out of the ball park. Love everything about this foundation, from the formula to the packaging. It's the perfect foundation if you like something thats super high coverage. Its definitely a keeper in my books.
3. Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-place Makeup
Coverage : medium build-able coverage with an airbrushed dewy finish. A little goes a long way, I love how this foundation double's up as a concealer when you add a little extra to areas that need a little TLC, which is great because that means one less step to flawless looking skin.
I use about 2 pumps for my entire face, this foundation dries instantly so be sure to work quickly, focusing on one area at a time other wise you'll struggle to blend it out seamlessly. I like to use a beauty blender or a densely packed brush.
Wear time : The #EsteeLauder #DoubleWear lasts all day (website claims 24hour staying power I've never worn it for that long but I can believe it) - doesn't move or flake on dry areas. I did set my T-zone with powder, as these areas tend to get shiny naturally.
Ingredients + Packaging : Contains an SPF of 10. Oil-free and oil controlling. Waterproof and transfer resistant. Non-acnegenic and fragrance free.
Love everything about the packaging. From its gold accents to its frosted bottle but I hate the fact that it has no pump which makes it a pain to use if not careful.
Size : 30ml
Shades Range : 61 shades. I am the shade 3W2 Cashew
Price : R600.00
Worth it : Apparently a bottle of Double Wear is sold every 12 seconds worldwide and I can totally understand why this is a cult favourite. This has become my most reached for foundation over the past few weeks. In my honest opinion it's not as heavy as the prior mentioned Fenty and Too Faced, which makes it perfect for everyday coverage.
4. Bobbi Brown Skin Long-wear Weightless foundation
Coverage : medium build-able coverage with a semi-matte finish that’s comfortable, breathable and weightless. Leaving you with a soft natural finish. The foundation glides on effortlessly and blends like a dream.
Wear time : A 16-hour wear - doesn't move or flake on dry areas. I did set my T-zone with powder, as these areas tend to get shiny naturally.
Ingredients + Packaging : #BobbiBrown #WeightlessFoundation contains an SPF of 15. Waterproof, sweat and humidity resistant. It’s paraben-free, sulfate-free and phthalate-free. This non-acnegenic formula contains marine sugar cane, algae extract and natural mineral powders which help control excess oil and shine. Also contains moisture-binding glycerin which ensures your skin won't feel tight and dry.
The foundation comes in a frosted cylindrical glass bottle with a pump dispenser, its simple, understated yet elegant.
Size : 30ml
Shades Range : 22 shades. Im the shade Warm Natural
Price : R635.00
Worth it : This is another one of my favourites for everyday use. It's so easy to blend and gives me just the right amount of coverage without looking cakey. If you like a more sheer coverage this can be mixed into your favourite moisturiser to give you a nice even finish.
5. MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation
Coverage : medium build-able coverage. A creamy, luxurious, gel-based foundation that blends like an absolute dream with a natural satin finish. If you use a brush this foundation definitely builds up to full coverage opposed to using a beauty blender, which gives you more of a natural softer look. Either way this foundation blends effortlessly.
Wear time : Long-wear. Does wear off slightly around oilier areas if not set correctly.
Ingredients + Packaging : Provides long-term hydration.Provides stay-true colour. Water-resistant. Dermatologist tested. Ophthalmologist tested.
Unlike most foundations from #MAC, the #StudioSculpt comes in a tube form with a cap. I usually don't like these types of packaging but this foundation is my go to foundation for brides. It's easy and hassle free to travel with. It allows you to dispense the exact amount of product you require by squeezing the tube.
Size : 40ml
Shades Range : 20 shades. I'm the shade NC40. With a tan I'm NC42
Price : R500.00
Worth it : This was my ultimate favourite foundation before I got introduced to brands like Too Faced and Fenty. With that being said it's still my go to foundation for my bridal clients, which obviously means I like it a lot. I still find myself reaching for this when I need to attend an event and my skin feels like it needs something a little more moisturising. You will not go wrong with this product if you're looking for something full coverage but not matte.
6. MAC Face and Body Foundation
Coverage : light-weight, buildable sheer coverage foundation. Perfect for evening out your complexion without using too much product. However this foundation is super light-weight and dewy so it will not conceal any blemishes therefore it's more suited towards normal to dry skin gals. It is water based so expect a liquid formula. I prefer it to be applied lightly for sheer coverage but you can let it set and then apply another thin layer for mediumish coverage. Don't try applying this product with a sponge as it'll just get soaked up. I would suggest using a densely packed brush for best results or your fingers.
Wear time : As this is a dewy foundation it does tend to move a little around oiler areas. Make sure to set those areas well before heading out.
Ingredients + Packaging : #MAC #FACEANDBODY water-based, water-resistant foundation that provides natural coverage for face and/or body. Helps moisturise and condition the skin.
The Face and Body comes in a plastic bottle which kinda reminds me of craft glue or something. It isn't the most fancy packaging l have to admit, but it definitely does the job. It’s travel-friendly and durable. It’s easy to control the amount of foundation that comes out of the bottle, however the one thing I don’t like about this packaging is that it’s a little bit messy. The foundation tends to leak out the top of the hole but it doesn’t leak out from under the cap, Thank God for that!
Size : 120ml + 50ml
Shades Range : 20 shades. Im the shade C4
Price : R615.00 - 120ml | R485.00 - 50ml
Worth it : I will say this probably won't be the best foundation if you have super oily skin as you'll need to set your entire face with a few layers of powder. However if you're someone who doesn't like to wear makeup but just wants a little something then this definitely is the foundation for you. I like to wear this on my no makeup makeup days. The effect is super natural, the pigment is utterly undetectable. The only aspect that might give it away is the sheen.
When would I Wear : Day
Until Next time....
Lot's of Love
